legitimate as the same workforce that does work on offices, fields, etc.
It is true that being a virtual assistant is not a secret any
more and more and more people are now trying to get into the trend. So being a
virtual assistant is not as easy as picking up cherry in the field, to be
honest, as of now, finding clients or being a part of a Virtual Assistant
Company is twice as hard as applying compared to the office and finding the
client is almost like finding a needle in the haystack. To be able to get into
the position and be recognized as a competitive virtual assistant, you must
organize yourself and think of a game plan to consider, luckily for you
aspiring VA’s out there, I have a compiled a simple list that you have to do to
be a Virtual Assistant.
1. Know your skill
A common misconception that most people believe is that when you are coined
as a “Virtual Assistant” you just replaced the term of being a “Personal
Assistant” where you’re entitled as a CEO or some bosses’ assistant that take care
of their schedule, call a client and do some paperwork and that you’re just
doing it thru cloud. Little did most of the people know, that is just a part of
Virtual Assistant. Being a Virtual Assistant is a flexible job, you should be
knowledgeable in any aspect of doing things on the computer. From Web
developing, photo editing, social media management, cold call marketing you
name it. You must be able to know what your skills are and be ready to market
the skills that you have.
2. Have a “Presentable” CV
To be able to rise in the competition, you must be able to
represent yourself pretty well. Employers and clients are going to depend on
what is on your CV and that CV should be able to get their attention and must
be able to contain the necessary skill to jump in. You can learn to make CV by
searching thru google and find out what skill you should list to shine out.
3. Attend Virtual Assistant Related Seminars
The good thing about the Virtual Assistant
community is that they tend to pay forward other aspiring virtual assistants by
conducting some free online seminars. By attending these seminars, you’ll be
able to know and learn more about what necessary skills you should learn so
that you can be more competitive when applying for the work. You can also
search from some paid Virtual Assistant seminars by some company so that you
can claim certificate and that should be a cornerstone for clients to hire you.
4. Be Truthful About Your Skills
If you’re just new at Virtual Assistant and you want to try
your luck about for what you have in your skill set, always be honest on what
you know. For example, if you only know data mining or gathering information,
don’t try to apply on your CV or your work experience that you also know Web
Developing, Social Media Management or whatsoever. It is because, if you get
hired and you just faked those skills that have been written on your CV, it
will only get you in trouble and it will only reflect you thus affecting your
work status and finding client might get you a hard time.
5. Look for Proper Platform to Join
There are many platforms that you can join to showcase your
skills as a Virtual Assistant if you ever know to yourself that you’re ready to
be one. You can visit Upwork, Freelancer, Fiverr and Outsourcely and make an
account there and try to reach out people who are in need of a Virtual
Assistant but do remember this, just apply to the job that you know if you’re
just on entry level. It’s okay that the salary at first is average, it will
grow over time as you’ll learn new experience on the field to prove that you’re
a legitimate virtual assistant.
